Rebirth Inc is a non profit tax exempt organization that was incorporated in 1978. Our mission is to present jazz artists from all over the world in the Michigan area as well a preserve jazz as America's true art form. Since 1979, Rebirth has successfully provided jazz concerts, educational programs, audio and video recordings to the community and throughout the Midwest. Contact Rebirth for: WORKSHOPS Rebirth is also an organization that is very active in the realm of education. Rebirth has conducted workshops in many communities including Europe and the Caribbean as well as on major college campuses throughout the United States and Europe. Rebirth's Community Band and Orchestra at YouthVille Detroit Young musicians from the ages of 13 - 19 experience studying with professional musicians and educators by participating in Rebirth's Community Band and Orchestra at YouthVille Detroit. The students must have sight reading experience, good tone quality and a great attitude. The ensemble is directed by Jazz master, composer and arranger Wendell Harrison with assistance from John Douglas. The group performs in several venues in and around the Detroit Metropolitan area and plays all types of jazz, modern and traditional classical music. CONCERTS Rebirth is internationally known for its outstanding concert productions which showcase the finest of jazz artists such as; Ahmad Jamal, Ellis Marsalis, Hank Jones, Annie Ross Wendell Harrison, Freddie Hubbard, Jerry Gonzalez, Buster Williams and Eddie Harris to name a few. PRODUCTS Compact discs/cassettes Rebirth offers unique audio recordings by artists such as Wendell Harrison, Harold McKinney and Pamela Wise. These recordings are available on cassette or compact disc. Most of them can be purchased at your favorite record store or through Rebirth. EDUCATIONAL PUBLICATIONS Whether you need music appreciation tools, or techniques to develop improvisational skills Rebirth has educational cassettes and text books available created by Detroit's own jazz greats. VIDEO TAPES Rebirth currently has two video tapes available on jazz master Wendell Harrison. REBIRTH'S LIVE RADIO BROADCAST SERIES From 1990 - 2007 Rebirth presented numerous live broadcasts via WDET- FM Public Radio in Detroit. The first event was presented on Jim Gallert's show DETROIT JAZZ ALIVE featuring the Wendell Harrison & Harold McKinney duet and continued with Harrison's Mama's Licking Stick Clarinet Ensemble. Rebirth's Live Radio Broadcast Series has continued for fifteen years to this date with radio host W. Kim Heron. These presentations have included many Detroit and world wide names including composer/pianist Horace Silver, vocalists Vanessa Rubin, Andy Bey and pianists Geri Allen, Pamela Wise and Mulgrew Miller trombonist Steve Turre, percussionist /trumpeter Jerry Gonzalez, bassist Richard Davis, saxophonists Bobby Watson and Gary Bartz and clarinetists Paquito D' Rivera and Wendell Harrison.
